I was diagnosed with anxiety depression over 10 years ago and have never really found humor in it. I was hoping that this book would change my viewpoint a bit, as I have come a long way in accepting my situation. Unfortunately, How to Weep in Public: Feeble Offerings on Depression From One Who Knows by Jacqueline Novak was not a how-to guide to depression for me. Reading this book isn’t going to cure your depression but it may frustrate you and instead of being depressed, you may feel a slight annoyance. I really struggled to make it through this book and put it down many times because her comments were so aggravating to me. In my opinion, her jokes, etc., came across as making fun of the whole concept (which is probably what she was going for), but I think my humor is a lot different than hers. Maybe I’ll give the book another shot someday, but for today, I’m passing on her offerings.
I received this book from Blogging for Books for this honest review.
